We are looking for a house (house is preferred over an apartment if we can find one) to rent in Dickson, Tennessee. A small, 1 bedroom house would be okay at this point because it will be just us and we are looking for something less than $500 a month.

We were just wondering what the best way is to find a house for rent since neither of us have ever had to look on our own before now.

Newspaper, ask around, etc.?

Thank you! :)

If you have a cell phone, then put 3 x 5 cards around, state what you are looking for and how much for, in the Post Office, Super market, or anywhere it is permitted. Buy the local weekly paper, the daily paper that covers a larger area, check out rentals in the desired area, there maybe only 2 bedroom homes available, but you can always bargain the price to your affordable one. Also, when driving around you can stop and ask at stores and restaurant, diners, if they know of a place. You may see signs as you walk around too. Don't leave a stone uncovered! If all fails turn to your local Real Estate office.
Lots of luck, and have fun. But remember, check out the area during the day to see the place, and if you like it, then check it out AT NIGHT.

I actually have lived in . . . . the smallest of cities - actually 4 blocks lengthy New Cambria, KS a huge metropolitan city that in sq. miles dwarfs vast apple, yet is seen the sticks...Kansas city. medium cities like Salina, KS and Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii the tremendous city of Washington DC

THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER WOULD BE A DEFINITE SOURCE; HOWEVER, DRIVING AROUND IN THE AREAS THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WOULD BE BEST AS MOST LANDLORDS PUT SIGNS OUT FIRST, AND THEN ADVERTISE IF THEY DON'T MEET WITH SUCCESS WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS OR SO.
