why hasn't any islamic scholar offered a point-by-point refutation of OBL's fatwas and declarations, showing them to be non-islamic and heretical?

Not simply "condemning" them, but actually analyzing point by point HOW OBL is flawed in his interpretation of islam (as so many people say he and his ilk are, but won't show it).

the point by point refuation is for MUSLIMS, not for people in the US. WE know OBL is a lying murderer - but MUSLIMS need to know this too. And the best way seems to be for scholars to refute what he wrote.

IF they can...

now why would they want to do something like that?... You know most of them have family, and generally they tend to want to keep their heads attached to the rest of their bodies as long as possible.
If they actually go into detail and refute each point, sooner or later they would have to say a few things that might make mr. Mohamed look like a very, very bad person, and that could get them in a lot of trouble.
It's so much safer to just try to dance around the real issues and make fairly ambiguous statements that can be interpreted in more than one way. That way they can say "I did my job" AND "I kept my head"

I keep on hearing that he is not in accordance with the Koran but... I too have to wonder why no leading Islamic scholar has ever spoken out publicly and laid out the reasons for it. It seems that they are scared to do it. Either because they feel their lives may be in danger or they would have to subvert the Koran to do it. Of course, a blogger getting 3 years for questioning the kind of extremism that Bin Laden espouses is probably a warning to others not to question even fundamentalists.

Why should they have to? I condemn the actions of terrorists but I cannot offer a point-by-point refutation of the fatwas and declarations. It is good enough for me that the scholars condemn them. Of course, there are people in the US who believe that the only muslim is a dead muslim. They will never accept the condemnations the scholars give. They would never accept a point-by-point refutation either. They only want blood. Nothing the muslims scholars could give them would please them. Why attack the scholars? They are not the terrorists.

the simple answer is that they cant. Unfortunately the Koran is full of hate speech, which is understandable considering it was written by a pedophile who believed he was the messenger of god (Mohommad, peace be upon him)
