I sleep on my side with my hands under my head. I wake up several times at night and my hand will be asleep, very numb! I have always slept on my side and I dont remember having this problem in the past . I know its not uncommon for your hand to go to sleep but... this much? every night, 3-4 times every night? I dont have a problem during the day just occasonally if I set on my foot.

Try a new sleeping position. If this doesn't work talk to your doctor. Also, are you a little chubby? When I was a child I was quite large and my hands would always fall asleep.

listen to middlema...the first concern is carpal tunnel syndrome. you should see your doc to confirm it, either through physical exam or ultimately a nerve conduction study ( to see if the conduction along the nerve is delayed). in the mean time, you may want to try a wrist splint which i think you can get at drugstores, these keep your wrist in a neutral position. your doc can also rule out other potential issues (much uncommon) as the others have mentioned.
good luck

poor circulation is often a cause, drink plenty of fluids and maybe take an asprin before you go to bed for the next couple of nights.(it thins the blood). try not to sleep on your hands so much and if things continue then see a doc. hope this helps and good luck

you are putting pressure on your neck stopping the blood flow to your hands. if u change the position u sleep in it will help. if u are getting the same symptoms during the day go to the doc as it could be a problem with your higher vertebrates.

You Might have the begining of carpel tunel problems!
Do this test:
Put your hands infront of you, with the back of your fingers of your right hand flat agaisnt the back of the left one's. (so your hands are folded, with fingers pointing at you, and your wrists bent).
If your numbness starts within 30 seconds, then consider seeing your primary MD for an assessment. Otherwise, just cold packs on the wrist, and advil.

See your GP and discuss any other symptoms you have especially if you're diabetic or there is familial history of diabetes, vascular disease. Consider raynaud's phenomen as another possibility.

You may want to have a check up. I know that with diabetes I have had that problem.
