What you are being told is not correct, there are distinct weather seasons in these countries. In Malaysia it is better to be on the opposite coast of the peninsular from which the monsoons come. The attached site provides the seasonal details for Singapore:

The weather in Singapore is the same year-round. Highs in the 80's, very humid, and a brief rain shower every day. Malaysia is similar to Singapore. Thailand is less humid and sunnier. The southern, resort, parts of Thailand have very nice weather... usually sunny and dry in the 80's.

Its hot. Make sure you wear thin cotton singlets those back packers wear. Try coming in Apr 13 - 16 to Thailand. They have their annual water throwing festivals to cool things down a bit. Its rainy seasons after that.
Malaysia Tioman island marine reserves are worth visiting. Sea a lot calmer without the moonsoons which ends at March.

The same as most of the rest of the year. 85 - 95 degrees and humid. They are near the equator, and are considered tropical countries. Lots of palm trees, monkeys, etc.
