I am moving to LA in August and would like a decent apartment in a decent neighborhood. I look at all the web listings and found a few. Where are the neighborhoods I should avoid? I am looking for $500-$700 per month, I know that cuts my options......any suggestions? SIZE DOESN'T MATTER! Are there any neighborhoods that are saturated with actors so I might network easier?

The only way you are going to be able to live in an apartment that is not in the ghetto for 500-700 a month in LA is to find a roommate. Becuase you are not even going to find a safe or nice studio for that cheap in LA.
As for area's that are saturated with Actors. Studio City is popular, some scattered parts of North Hollywood, some parts of the Valley.
LA is unlike any other city in the US. You can be on a safe street one moment, then dangerous the next, then back to safe. It's so sporadic. The sad thing is, apartment prices are out of control. And thats the unfortunate thing for aspiring actors looking to move to LA. You will need a nice nest egg before making the jump. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Ya this is pretty crazy to move here on that kinda budget! as for a roommate, find the roomie or better yet bring someone you know with you so you know you're safe because meeting roomies around here can get you in alot of hot water around this area.. You'd better find a place long before ya get here because if thats all the money you have to spend then you won't even have a place to stay when ya get here. My mom has a SF house, it rents for 5k a month its two bedroom and not all that great, so really I hate to say it do some more research before you get here even visit first or you might end up totally regretting it!

Get a roommate(s)....because you can't find an apt in a decent neighborhood by yourself for that much.

Try West Hollywood...lots of actors there. Mostly drag queens tho lol.

Avoid any neighborhood referred to as the "hood" or the "jungle."

$500-$700 will not get you a decent apartment in a convenient and safe neighborhood. Stay where you are until you can afford to live in L.A.
