There are numerous ways to increase your wifi signal, but are you talking about a desktop wireless card, an internal laptop card, a wireless router, what?
If you have a desktop card you can increase it by getting a high gain wifi antenna from radioshack that plugs into the back of the wifi card-D-Link 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna
$39.99.
If you have a wireless router Give your network a workout, with a Hawking Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna $49.99
Extend the range of your network with this Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna. This antenna boosts the wireless signal strength of your 2.4GHz 802.11g/b network from 2dBi to 15dBi. It works with 2.4GHz and 802.11 b/g wireless standards. It is wall mountable for easy installation.

You can try to change the channel on your wireless router. for example most routers by default use channel 11, change it to some thing else and try for some time.. Also do you have any security on your router? if not I would recommend that first.. atleast have a wep security on it.... Signal boosters are good but you need to consider if there are other issues like your neighbour might be using the same SSID as yours.. change that to something else...

All the best...
