Honey WHO CARES what the "books" say. Your mother raised you and you came out alright didn't you? Also I'm surprised your Dr hasn't told you if your child takes in more then 36 ounces of breast milk/formula its time to start solids. My son was 5 weeks early and started on rice cereal just before he turned 3 months old per his Dr's request and he was only taking in 32 ounces of formula a day. Don't go by the books go by what is right for you and the baby. And he has no allergies, he is healthy and happy that is all that matters. And no he is not fat either he's now 10 months and 20 pounds not bad for being so small at birth.

However a baby is psychologically ready for solids by two months of age. Your really gonna hear it from all the tit feeders {no offense ladies}

At 3 months she could be having a growing spurt. If this is a new situation, try to wait it out for a couple of weeks.

And, if she is sleeping through the night - why give her cereal? She cannot really digest it yet, so it will sit there and make her feel full with out any nutrition value. My eldest son was a chow hound. He could nurse for an HOUR go for an hour and then eat again (2 hour schedule - AHHHH). My milk could keep up, but I could not so I started formula.

Are your bottles formula or expressed milk? If it's expressed milk you may want to think about formula. Formula digests slower and stays in the tummy longer.

Take care - you'll do great and she'll be eating soon enough.

There are lots of different opinions on when to start solids. If your baby isnt getting full on milk alone, I say it would be fine to start solids. Not all babies like solids right away so keep on trying until it sticks. By the way, both my mother and I started feeding our children solids early(about teh same age as your baby) and they couldnt be healthier. Its all a matter of opinion. Do what you think is best for your child. After all, mother knows best and every child is different. I wish you luck

Also, there is a rare disorder where a person can lack the chemicals in their brain that lets them know when they are full. I think it may be too soon to have your baby tested, but if it continues I would look into this.

according to certain doctors you can put cereal in her bottle but its not recommended ......my dr said when my daughter (also just turned 3 months) was taking 32 ounces in a 24 hour period that she could have cereal at night but to spoon feed it to her......it works wonders.......it really all depends on what your baby is ready for my daughter eats 7 ounces ever 4-5 hours and is in the 50th percent for her age (so shes not fat)

She's just going through a growth spurt. Babies usually have one about 3 months of age. I know b/c my daughter is almost 3 months - so I will remember this!
I would not give her cereal yet - her stomach isn't ready.
Just enjoy the time with her feeding her - it will be gone before you know it!

If she acts like she is always thirsty or hungry you should ask her Dr. because that is a sign of diabetes. It may also be perfectly normal, but I would definitely ask her Dr. My son was 3 1/2 months when he started cereal, but I only gave him a small amount once a day.

adding a little bit of baby cereal wont hurt as long as its not a whole lot just enough to make the milk thick so she stays full longer we had to do this with my nephew but he was only 2 months old i would listen to your mom she knows what she is doing

It's not going to hurt to give her cereal, but doesn't your pediatrician have a phone nurse?
That's what they're for. Call them.
Be thankful she's sleeping through the night.

Yea, growth spurt... drop the formula and just nurse her. Once she gets your supply up, she will slow down again.

You really shouldnt start solids until 6 months or later. And rice cereal is a horrible first food.

ugh, no no no no no no cereal, no formula

her constant feeding is to regulate and maintain your supply. when she is in a growth spurt she needs to nurse a lot.

she should have no other food besides breastmilk until about 10 months.
