If you are a citizen of USA and you depart and return to USA, no you do NOT need a passport for a cruise to the Bahamas. Just a birth certicate and photo ID. Next year, you will need a passport.
Don't wait apply now for a passport if you plan on traveling next year.

No you do not need a passport if you are going on a round trip cruise out of Florida....but if you are going on a cruise and staying in the Bahamas for a few days you will need one.

As of Jan 1, 2008 ALL US citizens will be required to carry a valid passport to cruise. Until that time a valid or expired passport or an original birth certificate with raised seal along with a picture ID will be required.......So I hope this clears up your dilemma.

FYI if you have time, just get a passport.

As stated above.
As of Jan 1, 2008 ALL US citizens will be required to carry a valid passport to cruise. I beleive the law was originally set for Jan 1, 2007 I'm pretty sure they extended it to 2008.

Also when you get off the cruise ship in the Bahamas they REQUIRE that you have your passport with you as a form of identification. Before you leave the port area some security guards check your passport before they let you go anywhere and I'm pretty sure you need it as a form of identification when you are in the city.

It now takes about 10 weeks to get a passport, even with an expediter, (who costs more money) the time is three or four weeks and that is with your papers being sent overnight mail to the expediter and back overnight mail. The state Dept is prepairing a pass port card or pass card, this costs less than a passport, 40 dollars plus 20 to execute it. My son says his travel agent told him he must have a passport to go to the Bahamas now, this law was passed Jan, 2006. Do not pay for a cruise, unless you have passport or pass card. Your money will not be refunded.

No you do not as long as you have a copy(original prefered) of your birth certificate and drivers license or State issued phot ID. Me and my husband both did not have a passport and we went through immagration with no problems. We were ther for 4 days and 3 nights.

The U.S. now requires all people to have passport to leave and re-enter the country.
9/11 caused this to the easy places like Canada.
