Excellent and interesting question! Of course, the various answers to this question will depend on the religions of the answerers. I will suggest an answer from a Biblical perspecitve: the first premise (that God put us here to test us) is flawed. I believe a review of the Bible as a whole will lead one to believe that God's purpose is much more theocentric, and much less anthropocentric. The concept of "testing us to determine our fitness for heaven" is one that is much more prevelant in other religions, and has been incorporated, to a large extent, into Christianity extra-Biblically (errantly). Of course, that is if I understand things correctly. Thanks for the interesting question.

That's a hard question to answer...but you surely can't be asking why are we alive? We are alive because man fell, so now he sins. This life is your test. Belive in your heart that Jesus and God are your saviours, and you will be rewarded with a place in Heaven. Of course, God knows what your decisions are, but that doesn' mean you don't have a choice. He gave you a choice to believe in him or not, and although he knows what your decisions are, he does not choose them for you. You do. And he has a purpose for your life. Maybe, if you don't believe, it is to encourage other Christians to become Missionaries. You must remember, whenever someone says that everything that happens to you if for a good purpose, it is. It may not be the best purpose on this life, but in the next. God may have to put you through intense pain before you believe in him. God speaks in your heart, and whispers to your soul. If you choose to not listen, then it is not your fault when God has to throw a brick at you to get your attention.

What makes you think there is a God. God is supposed to be the loving parent. What loving parent do you know that would allow such awful things to happen to their children.
People like a God figure to be around so that they can hold him responsible for something they do. If a person is dying of cancer and people pray for him whether or not he dies it will be Gods will. Sorry but I cannot buy into this.

Wow- this is a hard-hitting, powerful question. I respect it, and I applaud you for asking it.

I don't know the answer. You have really got me thinking, though. Awesome question.

Maybe it has to do with free will, my dear friend. God knows everything, yes- but in regards to the human equation, we have to make choices in life. God probably knows what choices we will make in advance, but in the interest of 'science' or (insert your own idea here if you wish)...he watches over us to see what will happen, sort of like scientists watching a rat find its way through a maze. Amaze.

Splendid question.

Exactly the whole concepts of god are muddled up. Why would he/she need to test us anyway. Surely if he/she was real he/she would create the perfect human being as he/she is perfect. If god was the first being ever and he/she was perfect then how could of sin or inperfectness existed. That is why god isn't real, it is simply impossible to have something perfect create something inperfect.

Yep, IF God had put us here, that would be quite a question to answer.

But since this premise is wrong, the only answer has to be the old Zen one: 'un-ask the question!'

He may know what choices we are going to make, but we do not.
We must go through them. He let's us go through this for us, not for him.
It would not be fair if he fast forwarded our lives and then told us the decisions we made. We would likely respond " How can I be sure I would have made those choices?"

The reason is that we do not know what our decisions will be. God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. This is not to say that God knows everything before it happens, but that God knows everything as it happens.

We really are like children aren't we. As parents we know our children are going to do the odd bad thing but we love them anyway. Even the parents of some of the most evil monsters in our history would still tell you that they continue to love their children - Imagine as god's children he looks on us in the same way, Guess he must feel really proud when we do good. I don't believe God wants to punsih us all, that is what religious leaders would have us believe - God is love and God is good

It is speculation that God knows everything - as we don't know everything about things we make it is evident that God has many times lost the plot a little. His whole idea is based on evolution and he relies on us living and dying many times over so that he can perfect the species
