Marigolds and snapdragons. Great colors, and bloom constantly. Give them plenty of sun, and average water needs, you'll be all set.

The easiest of any flower I know to grow are Zinnia. They grow about two feet tall and are very very easy to take care of.

Daylillies, daffodils, hostas, tulips, and crocuses are also very easy to take care of. Many of them will stick around for 50 some years with hardly a bit of care given to them.
