I am going to the doc this afternoon, but I wanted opinions first. I am 26 weeks with kid number 2. I have been having braxton hicks contractions (the non painful kind) since week 17 or so. They weren't painful at all, just tightening of the uterus. Then last week, I had one painful one. Then on Saturday, I had 4 really bad ones. They were about 30 seconds long and were about 3 minutes apart. For those who've had kids, they were about a 4 on the pain scale. Enough that if I were really in labor, I would be asking for my epidural. Then they went away. I've read that these painful ones don't normally occur till the 8th month or so.
I have no bleeding or anything. But I also read that if they hurt, to call the doc. Since it was late Saturday night and I am seeing the doc today anyway, I decided to just wait. Things have been normal since.
Any opinions?

Relax!! These are normal with 2nd and later babies. I told my doctor I was having more this time too, and it's nothing to worry about. Just let your doctor know at your apt so they are aware of it, but it's nothing to worry about. They can get really strong, and as long as they go away, you are fine. If you get them again, try getting up and changing positions or walking for a while. A warm bath can help them too, as can a heating pad set on the lowest setting with a towel between it and your skin. I usually will apply gentle pressure to the sides of my uterus too. That tends to help me with them. Good luck!! They aren't fun, but it's normal.

Painful braxton hicks at 26 weeks?

I think I started getting them around 26 weeks too. Your stomach will go rock hard for about 30 seconds at a time. If you get up and change position, they should go away. They were mild at first, but as I approached my due date, they became more varied. I actually had some Braxton-Hicks that were strong enough that I had to stop and breathe through them.

It's good your going to your doctor.....I went into preterm labor at 33 weeks 4 weeks ago, and I had low-in-the-front period-like cramps, and a lot of pressure in my lower back. I got the urge to push and felt like I needed to go #2, but when I got in the bathroom, I didn't have to go, but was spotting, and hauled off to the ER, where my contractions got worse. They stopped my labor, and I am now full term. I have since had Braxton-Hicks that felt nothing like that- that wasn't tightening, it was cramping, but since yours actually hurt so much, I would definitely check on it.

Your 'Braxton Hicks' may be more 'painful' because of what you have been eating! I know this because it happened to me when I was pregnant with my second daughter ... I stopped eating the foods that 'caused' the extra pain and the Braxton Hicks 'subsided' and weren't as painful. Be CAREFUL because it could be 'anything' you are used to eating when you aren't pregnant ... but do 'talk to your doctor' about the 'pain' and get 'his/her take on it' too ...

Best thing you can do is just wait and talk to the doc. Each womans' pregnancy is different. Opinions without all information on your health/situation would just be words. You could get such a wide range of opinions and none of them may have anything to do with what you are experiencing, based on many factors, such as age, weight, height, health condition, etc.

I had the same thing and I went into labor and delivery. They said my painful braxton hicks were due to stress and dehydration. So drink some water and relax before your appt.

To me, they hurt like HEII!!! Don't worry, if we all experienced it, your probably ok. Im sure your doctor will tell you the same..mine did.

This happened to me with my 3rd pregnacy. I had them at 28 weeks on. They ended up putting me on partial bed rest.
