I hope they do, but I just don't see it. Toronto is probably the team that makes the run.
Losing Kris Benson right out of the gate really hurts the pitching depth. There are really high hopes that this will be Daniel Cabrera's breakout season. Erik Bedard could be a competitive #1 starter, but his record probably won't show it. Maybe the O's will get lucky and Adam Loewen will step up. They've also spent some money on the bullpen and they have something to prove.
The offense is still respectable with Miguel Tejada and Brian Roberts. Jay Gibbons needs to stay healthy to provide some pop. Aubrey Huff was a nice acquisition; he may be able to spell Melvin Mora from time-to-time (Mora will need it as I think he's on the downside now).
As long as Tejada is happy and is willing to stay, Sam Perlozzo will get this thing turned around soon, especially with Leo Mazzone in his corner.

No chance at all. Sorry to say this, but the Orioles will be one of the worst teams and will be there for a while. They really need to try and do something because it could be a while before they contend for anything. The only thing they will contend for this year is being second worst and not the worst.

Yes, they have a chance to contend for the first two months of the season. At that point, they will be relegated to competing with the Devil Rays for fourth place in the division. Sorry Orioles fans, but that's life in the AL East. You should be used to it by now.

The Orioles have an excellent chance, if a major flu outbreak happens in New York and spreads up to Boston. It might also help the O's if this bug spreads to Toronto.
Other than that, the O's might not even be the best team in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. And that hasn't happened since around 1959 or so.

Not enough bats not enough arms, perhaps 2008 is their year. Toronto, New York, and Boston will finish in the top 3 in the AL East. Who finishes where is the question. Baltimore and Tampa Bay will be in a race to see who can stay out the cellar.

Sorry, the Orioles will finish fourth behind the Yanks, Boston and Toronto. The good news is that they might finish within 10 games of .500.

I have lived in Baltimore my whole life, and there may not have had a bigger fan from the mid 60's to the late 80's. While Spring hopes eternal (or something like that) and they have made some changes, I think I can answer your question rather directly.
No!

Dont count out the blue jays ( not a jay fan, i am a yankee fan) they got a good team. I dont think it will be the oriols time yet. maybe in about 5 years they can be contendors. when good players contracts run out, and they go for another coach. They need a lot better pitching. Losing BJ ryan was a big blow.
