i am using the injection as a form of contraception, so me and my partner don't use condoms. I have been having abormal bleeding, one day here one day there, sometimes very light, sometimes very heavy. i also find my stomach has been very boated and tender, and have been having a strange pain in the inside of my right leg, near where my ovary is. Any ideas what this might be? should i see a doc?

Your ovary is not on the inside of our right leg, it is higher up between your naaval and pubic bone. The bleeding is called break through bleeding and is normal for women using birth control. If you don't know whether your partner is only having sex with you, you need to see a doctor to ruleout STD's. call and tell them about the pain and other symptoms your having and see what they say.

Everyone I know who has used the Depo injection has had irregular bleeding for a time before everything settles down , bloatedness also seems to be a side effect. If you are really bad why not try some other forms of contraception. There are lots of new combination pills now that have very few side effects.

On the injection you do have a few side effects that usually go away, the bleeding you can talk to you doctor and sometimes they can give you a pill to take to help delete that, and the shot does cauce tenderness and bloating. If you have a really bad pain, than I would go talk to the doctor just call them up most of that stuff is just side effects of the shot.

Depo it was Black boxed b/c it women are developing osteoporosis (among other things) by 40.
If you choose to continue, the first few months are irregular because your body is trying to "adjust" to the injection. Spotting and bleeding is normal for depo in the first 3-6 months.
Also you need to be careful because blood clots are common with birth control. You might be forming clots which can in turn dislodge and cause serious problem and/or death.

They will tell you this is normal. But your body is telling you it's not. Listen to your body. It is trying to protect you.
