I have an NEC dvd dual layer burner and I use Nero to burn and copy dvds. Mainly my issue is when i copy dvds. When it is creating an image it freezes my computer at 45-50% and if there is any video or audio playing it all of a sudden gets really glitchy for about 20 seconds. When I go to check out my event viewer im told my JRAID device is messed up. here is the message
The device, \Device\Scsi\JRAID1, did not respond within the timeout period.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

why is this happening and how do i fix it?

Bob G tells the truth. When I do DVD's I don't do anything for as long as it takes to burn. Sometimes about 6 hours for capture, edit, multiplexing, and finalizing.

While burning DVDs does use a lot of system resource, this sound like an issue with nero (What version by the way? Older versions of the program aren't so good with DVD) more so than anything else. Not to mention we don't know you're system specs and that may not be a concern at all. I'd suggest trying a new burn program (O.N.E.S., Imgburn, which is free as well) and seeing what results you get. I'll include the link to imgburn for you!

As a general rule I would not do anything else while burning DVD's. It takes almost all of your system resources and processing power to burn them unless you have a very new system with dual core processors. Also closing any uneeded programs will help too. In addition if you have 512 MB of ram or less I'd also close any programs in the system tray that could be hogging ram or system resources. Rebooting your system just before burning DVD's may help too if it's been on for a while.

"Hey guys,
I found a solution to my 'Device error 41' and 'virtual scsi driver not detected' error so I thought i'd share it with you.
Today i found out about the 4.08 release of DT but installing that did not solve my problem.
Even after updating SPDT to 1.38 I still got the error.
Then i remembered that DT stopped working after i did some testing with drivers from JMicron (the jraid drivers) which i removed because I don't have a RAID set anyway.
I suspected that these drivers messed with the device driver setup of the generic Microsoft SCSI Miniport so I checked the jraid.inf file of the Jmicron drivers to see what the driver does during installation.
The jraid driver messes with the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
there it inserts a Multi-String value called 'UpperFilters' with data that shows JGOGO in hex.
I checked with a PC where DT is working and this UpperFIlters key was not there.
In fact, a subkey '0000' with lots of values regarding Microsofts SCSI/RAID-hostcontroller was found here but not on my broken PC.
So I removed the 'UpperFilters' key (after exporting the whole key ofcourse) and imported the complete key including the 0000 info, rebooted and..
YES! it works :-)"
