Diversity can be both a blessing and a curse, in an unartifical diverse state (like areas of California), the encouragement and emphasis on diversity can make things like ethnicity MORE important than they otherwise would be seen by those living in the already diverse state.

If you have children of different color playing together, they probably won't care about the ethnicities of others until other people start making an issue of it. I grew up playing with white kids, black kids, asian kids, hispanic kids, indian kids, etc. None of us cared about each other's skin colors. We naturally ate at each other's various cultural foods at each other's houses, watched videos in other languages. I saw "Butterfly Lovers", learned to use chopsticks, and developed a love of authentic Chinese food at my Chinese friend's house; she developed a love of Italian and Mexican food at mine. I didn't start caring about color until society made it matter (in school choices), and even then I was still friends with people of other ethnicities.

My high school had a mandatory 'ethnic celebration' assembly event. No European nation was allowed representation because that was "white supremacy" and the event turned into 'chant for my ethnicity because it's better than yours' and 'boo everyone else while we wave our flags' event. I would have cut the event but my activity in the theater class landed me operating the follow-spotlight for the event.

Laws, things like Affirmative Action, encourage the building of diversity in workplaces at the cost of making color matter. Rather than the most qualified applicant being chosen, the most qualified ethnic individual is chosen, so even if the most qualified person is white, they are ineligible because they're white.

I was not allowed to attend a special business studies accelerated education program at a closely high school due to there being too many people of my ethnicity there. It certainly affected my life in a negative way, knowing that I was being disallowed opportunities because of my ethnicity.

These things build more hate. Making diversity a big deal, making culture and color important, is counter-productive to encouraging the colorblind viewpoint America needs to gain real acceptance to all people.

If laws are used to force one side into compliance, but those laws are not applied to all equally, then the other side, the people the laws are meant to help, will end up abusing the laws and reverse discrimination is the result. This is the case in the US today.

it doesnt... if you tell a company you have to have so many green people... then you force the company to make up a job which will make the orange people mad... and you all cause more hate.. also you are not getting the best people.. what if the off pink person was better at the job.. then you screwed him.. basically if your company hires someone because of the color of the skin you are practicing racism and you know you didnt look for the best person for the job... you looked for a color
