I am trying to get a computer that is good, but I don't want one that will tear up soon as I get it and I don't want an expensive one either. Maybe below $1000.

apple :)
you can pick up a macbook for like $1100 now.
alot of people don't like mac, but as an owner of one, I would never trade it for a pc. I use a desktop pc for cadd, and basicly solidworks is the only reason I would ever use it. The thing I like most is there are 0 known viruses or spyware for mac, simply because it is not flawed like windows. You should really consider going to an apple store and trying one out, and doing some research instead of believeing what others tell you.

Try Toshiba, they are excellent but you may go over budget for a good one, Dell's are cheaper and you could easily find one under $1000 decently configured, HP's are also reasonably priced, but it comes down to what you want to use the laptop for and how much you are willing to spend.
