Yes they need a male figure. A woman can be strong and that could be good but a little boy can relate to a male. And that male should be there day in and day out.

All kids deserve the best and having two parents of different sexes is the first step in achieving this. A boy will relate to a father in ways that he will NEVER be able to relate to a mother. So do the kid a favor, give him a father.

It is good for boys to have a male figure around, but it can be a Grandfather, a dad, a cousin, an uncle, a friend. A quality person, with good morals who they can identify with and who will answer their questions and try to be a father image to them. My brother was 11 when my Dad died, and my Mother's brother was the male figure who took him under his wing and was a good moral influence and was always there if my brother had a question or just wanted to talk. My brother grew up to be a famous author and illustrator of children's books.

I think they do need a male figure, it takes a man to teach a man to become a man. It can be a father, an uncle, a grandfather or a big brother but there are some things only a man can teach man, although women can do a damn good job too!

I am a bit traditional and I tend to think children in general are better off with a Mother as well as a Father in the house. Both parents contribute differing things to the life of a child and without one or the other they can lack some important training as they grow.
