It has been 14 years and counting since the HABS did anything in the playoffs. The 2000s will be the first decade the Canadiens have gone without a cup win, let alone an appearance in the SC finals. With the salary cap and draft in place, the Canadiens cannot hand pick all the French-Canadians anymore. It must be tough seeing that dynasty become a less than average team.

Bottom line is Les Canadiens, Les Suck!

YES I'm a HUGE Habs fan and i know they haven't been that great of a team since Patrick Roy left. but with all the salary's that have gone up over the 90's and some of the 2000's the Habs where not going to pay a player $4 million if hes only worth $1 million and averages 30 to 50 points a season that's bad for hockey. its the owners fault the salaries skyrocketed and then just in the past few years complaining about the players salary's, know the owners got there wish the salary cap. playing in Montreal is the hardest team to play for with the media and fans on them every second when there not playing good hockey. in the past 15 years the Habs finished in the middle of the overall standings so never really had a shot at the top draft picks over does years and that doesn't help one bit. Bob Gainey is really respected throughout the league and by the players. he is a smart hockey man and he will turn this team around to be contenders in the next few years. it will take allot of work but with this new salary cap things will change in Montreal that's for sure the Habs have 4 years to win the Stanley cup in this decade so they still have a shot at it. it won't be easy but it can be done and i have faith in Gainey to turn things around in Montreal.

plus with this salary cap players that dreamed of playing for there favourite teams as a kid can come true, im not saying its going to happened but players such as Crosby, Lecavalier Habs fans them selfs, just like Lindros got his chance of playing with his favourite team the Leafs so you never know what can happaned.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Its more likely than not. The salary cap ensures that every team is on equal footing and we'll likely get a lot more parity in the league, just like the NFL. Montreal is already a good, solid team and they have the foundation to build a cup winner. I think they'll punch their finals ticket within the next 10 years.

Currently, you are right. But things can change in a real hurry. One "Sydney Crosby" type of draft pick, a good trade, or a smart free agent signing or two can really change things. There is simply no way to predict who will be "good" in a couple of years. Every year there is at least one big surprise. Who outside of Long Island would have picked the Islanders to be anything but last place in the league? You never know.

The Canadiens will have the same hard time as the Oilers. Montreal is a huge pressure city to play for. Players might not play as well because they are constantly being badgered for every single mistake. Players might be hesitant to sign there, even though it may have been their favourite team growing up.

Point is Montreal might be seen as a hard city to play for.
