The webcam (known as an iSight, for future reference) only turns on when it is needed. So, as the previous poster suggested, if you open a program that can use the iSight (PhotoBooth, iChat AV and iMovie come preloaded, many other programs use the camera for other actions) it will activate. You'll know it is active by the little green light glowing next to it.

iChat is the AOL Instant Messenger / Jabber compliant chat program made by Apple. If you are looking to test out chatting (or just want to see what the camera picture looks like) take a look at this site: http://www.thinkmac.net/blog/archives/mac-tips-daily-155-ichat-av-testing.html to find out how.

Good luck!

Well in applications there is an application called photo booth open that up and you will be able to take pictures with effects. If you want to use a webcam for IM you open iChat in applications and configure it to use the webcam.

As some others have suggested, you are able to turn it on with image sales area, iMovie, and Quicktime which got here along with your Mac. you are able to also acquire different courses like Skype which will run it.
