The teacher's unions (which, for those of you out there who have *no* grasp of politics yet insist on posting anyway, are notoriously left-wing) have RUINED our schools. They don't worry about something as silly as *teaching* for goodness sakes - what good will math or communication skills do someone if they don't have good self-esteem? Our schools have been dumbed-down into "feel-gooderies". It's a DISGRACE.
American children are getting dumber and dumber, but hey - it's all good! The teachers are worried about the *big* issues. No, silly, not illiteracy - I mean the *big* issues! Like - what color of ink to use when grading papers. Poor little Johnny. His paper sucks - he can't spell and he thinks that "grammar" is the nice lady who sends him checks for his birthday. But at least the little moron won't have to deal with the horrible stigma of red ink on his paper - mercy, no! That's too harsh. Teachers prefer PURPLE now. WTF?!?
And I can NOT believe some schools are trying to do away with the class valedictorian! Why? Because it's "unfair" to the little losers who skipped classes and never did any homework. BS! What about being fair to the kid who BUSTED HIS ***? I just do *not* understand this type of thinking.
As for Katrina, you baboons, Nagin and Blaco are *both* Democrats.

Several issues with Public Education and I know I am not going to hit all of them. Here are a few.
1-Teachers' Union: They should be dissolved. Teachers should be held accountable for their work. About the only way to remove a teacher is if they sleep with a student.
2-Although the no child left behind has good intend, it is a failure. It puts emphasis on certain subjects and it takes away from others. Not all children can be smart so it ends up lowering standards. Teachers (union) have fought against voucher systems. Heaven forbid someone have the opportunity to send their child to a school that succeeds.
3-This could also be grouped with 2. Dissolving the Federal Department of Education. Education should be left at the state and local levels where people can be held accountable.
4-Parents should also get involved with their children's education (and many do).
I know this won't happen...We could always revert back to the old days when there was no public school. It was all private. It was more efficient and accountable and they had better results. People still have this choice but they usually have to continue paying the education tax.

As a teacher, I agree that a lot of problems in America seeming have the solution of "If we just throw a lot of money at it, then it will get better."
Simply put, sometimes money is an issue and sometimes money isn't.
I was teaching a student years ago, and I had a meeting on her progress. I had all sorts of work samples and data to back up my conclusions on her mathematical progress, and thought I knew everything to help her succeed."
The meeting started off with her social worker saying "______ is in a very good mood lately, because for the first time in five years she got a letter from her dad in prison."
I think a large part of the problem with education lies in the "societal decay". If you send me a bunch of students who lack love, support, self-discipline, etc, there is only so much I can do with them. If I was a carpenter and you brought me a bunch of sticks to make a house, I could do the best I could with those materials. However, in the end the house is still made of sticks.

Who in our us of a would not combat if an enemy ever extremely landed on our shorelines? no longer the BS approximately them being in our decrease back yards if we don't run everywhere in the globe attempting to wipe out an enemy we won't even locate in Iraq. The republican base is basically too keen to have self assurance each and all of the crap approximately cut back and run and the Dems are going to tax you to death. Leaving Iraq isn't reducing and working, that's extra like a company determination, do no longer throw sturdy funds after undesirable, understand whilst to cut back your loses. As a republican that ought to be honestly comprehensible. actuality, at last this conflict is going to ought to be paid for, whilst it happens, who will you blame, whoever is in skill, or President Bush for putting us into this vast debt? this could be difficult to understand yet others as nicely republicans do help this us of a, that's why you notice plenty dissent and opposition to the President.

So, the answer is to have a bunch of politicians in Washington micro-manage and dictate the curriculum for them? Yeah, the public schools are in bad shape in the poor big cities, in large part due to corruption, and dumping more money into failing schools is not the answer. But neither is establishing a whole new federal bureaucracy for schools to deal with and pissing away a couple billion dollars a year on yet another round of "testing" to further distract teachers from what they should be doing in the classroom- teaching!

Hummm... you blame this on Democrats. I personally pay the extra money to send my son to a private school. The good intentions are there and anyone who deserves to be a principle should want to be moved to successfully help others. Anyone in the education system should be wanting to help others. You think that schools are not getting better because they lose funding? That's crazy. The government funds public schooling for several different reasons not just for being a poorer school and I definitly would not blame it on a certain party. Everyone supports the no child left behind laws

Schools are 90% about the parents, plain and simple, but to adress your points:
Just because you get increased funding to improve (which is rare) doesn't mean you get your funding cut when you do well. And individual teachers don't get any of that funding anyway - its goes to added staff and facilities, so individual teachers ahve no incentive or disincentive either way.
Good Principles (emphasis on the Good) don't mind going to tough schools and turning them around; they enjoy the professional challenge, and it is good for their careers .

First of all, not all Democrats are liberals and visa versa. In addition, money wasting and poor judgement are not exclusive to either liberals or Democrats. The real problem is lack of personal responsibility and lack of foresight. They don't know how to reward and reinforce those who are doing well and make changes to those who are doing poorly. Why don't you try talking to them and make positive suggestions rather than politicizing it? You never know. They might be open to a few suggestions at this point.

The unfunded mandate called "no child left behind" has done more harm to our public schools, than anything Liberals or Conservatives have proposed yet.

that whole rant, and not a single solution. Why do you guys always expect dems to clean up your mess? How about STOP CUTTING FUNDING TO THESE PROGRAMS, and STOP BORROWING MONEY FROM SOCIAL SECURITY? And BTW< you already pay for every uninsured americans healthcare (that is, if you have a job and pay insurance and taxes)
