Lately I am becoming increasingly withdrawn.

I have stopped speaking to my collegues (fellow students) who I have known for 3 years and used to be friends with

I them see them every day but now I hardly even say "hi" and they don't talk to me either.

I am convinced for some reason that they do not respect me, it is like there is a conspiracy against me.

And there seems to be no particular reason for this. Instead of developing working relationships / friendships, I am interacting less and less with them and with my lecturers.

The future seems hopeless.

I am graduating this year and I am worried that when I leave I will lose contact and have no friends and none of my tutors will give me a good reference for jobs.

I am a confirmed recluse myself, though I communicate more since getting into catering. My opinion is that for some reason your self worth has plumetted and hence you feel others might be picking up on that and be inclined to disrespect you. As an older child I shook with nerves just walking down the street because I felt the world in general was laughing at me. A few were of course but on reflection, it was only a few. It doesn't take much to shatter confidence: one mistake is often enough and if you take it to heart then more will follow. I rebuilt my confidence with a regime of running and swimming: I got myself in shape and I cleared my mind of all the negative junk. Walking or any other vigorous exercise will help. I still have some way to go as I have lost a lot of ground but all the time I'm building confidence. If there are issues in your life, you must deal with them. I am to some degree bisexual and bottled it up for years as it was a common taunt when I was a child. That's now out in the open, at least amongst my friends, family and workmates and it is an enormous relief to find yourself still accepted by the majority .Today I happily put a background of pink butterflies on my 360. Analyse yourself (or seek professional analysis) to try and figure what might have knocked your confidence. Exercise as the best way to get things in perspective.Email me if you want to talk further. John.

dont worry too much. Its a phase of life which everyone comes across. If we cant be in contact with everyone all the time ,we cant even be aloof and secluded from people forever.just give it time and also others to acknowledge ur stuff.people often become selfish at times.once everyone knows ur standard and value u will be surrounded by them once again.so dont get disturbed if u feel lonely and undesirable by others.start working towards ur future plans and share them with some good friends, good people around u and ur teachers.this will help in reducing ur loneliness and u will also get guidance ,encouragement from this.u can also try the following which I do when I am caught in such a situation - for a change go for a comedy movie, play, etc with ur family ,friends, etc which will not only relax u but it will also strengthen the bond between u and ur friends, family, etc

Sorry but i had to laugh
You're funny i will give you that :-)
Maybe it is not the people pulling away from you,
maybe it is just you going into yourself.
Have you got b.o (only joking)
just trying to cheer you up.
your tutors should no doubt give you a good reference if you have done all the work correctly
it is not a popularity contest
you are their to learn.
Hopefully it is just a phrase your going thru.
Try going to college and saying good morning tomorrow.
People will be shocked at first
thinking i wonder what he is after :-)
but then it will become natural
and it may draw you out of yourself again

Perhaps you feel left out? Maybe you are being left out simply because you are not willing to enter into false gaiety i.e. you look down on what consider to be false, cos you don't feel happy? Vicious circles... You withdraw cos you feel a bit down & folks around you don't stop you & ask "what's up?" so you sink further down...

This is something a lot of people go through... can be very cruel... leading to being labelled "loner."

If you actually want to join in more, howsabout attaching yourself to somebody else who also looks like you feel?
Try talking to a tutor, mentor, or counsellor...
or join a discussion group, or sports class where the emphasis is on team work?

you sound a bit depressed. Are you eating properly? If you're not having a good diet you can feel very low. You should let your personal tutor know how you are feeling and also make an appointment to see you Uni counselling service. Foods required for good mental health include plenty of fruit and vegetables and those containing essential fatty acids, such as sardines, tuna, salmon, pumpkin and walnuts.

It sounds like you may be depressed. Have you been feeling sad, less interested in things you used to enjoy?
When I first started suffering from depression, I withdrew totally from friends and family and stopped interacting with pretty much everyone around me, including work colleagues and teachers and it has been the same pattern with each episode of depression that has followed.

If it is something that is bothering you then I'd suggest you see your GP

People stop talking to others because they fail to meet their expectations. It happens all the time. It's not about respect, but it turns out you didn't connect on the proper emotional level. So Don't worry, try to make some new friends. Just don't make enemies.
