You'll also want to get multiple moving quotes from different movers. You will want to get estimates in writing from multiple moving companies. Try to be as accurate as possible when you tell the movers what you will be moving. You will likely be charged based on either weight or volume.

Different moving companies offer different types of services, depending on how much you want to do yourself and how much you want the mover to do. If you pack yourself, it will eliminate some of the time on the actual move day, but be careful to pack adequately and you should be warned about liability issues when it comes to packing items yourself.

Call them and ask. Our U-haul dealer here in Texas has helped us a lot in being able to get the right truck to move sons from here to Idaho and to North Carolina. We saved a lot. However, it also depends on how much you have, and what kind of time you are talking about having to pack. When we move, it is 18,000 lbs. . . . . consequently, we only moved ourselves once - we let the government do it the other 6 times.

We lived in Louisiana for a number of years, I hope you enjoy it as we did. Great people and even better food. Enjoy the culture, it's unique and fun.
