Pull the cap off your post and go with the next smallest size pipe and insert it right in the other pipe, you'll have the strength you'll need to hold up the 6' of fence and won't look bad at all. simplest way I can think of and then get yourself some gray silicone caulk and caulk so water won't get down inside. Attach taller posts to each existing post, then string chainlink 2 feet above.
In other words, get 6 foot posts and fasten the bottom 4 feet to the 4 foot posts. That way, you don't remove the old posts nor do you have to dig holes for the new ones.
You can use bailing wire to attach the new posts to the old ones, or if you want to be fancier, use clamps. A fence store should be able to help you get the right kinds of fasteners.

check dia of posts and goto the next size bigger so it fits over the old to hide it --
