genetics?

Well, this is more common in the mainland Asian area. (It's genetic.) But the eyes of the Pacific Islanders that are counted as Asian don't have the same kind of eyes. We do have somewhat similar eyes. That is why I'm usually mistaken for a different ethnicity.

My personal opinion is in those cultures most of the people (if not all) were heavily into farming (rice fields). Over a span of thousands of years, their eyes adapted to the squinting and engraved themeslves into the genetic code. Much like skin pigmintation adaptation in the warmer climates. No sunglases in those times.

And why do people take this question personally? It's mear curiosity of reality and if you don't know, that doesn't mean that it's just because. People should be proud of their differences, not try to suppress them to avoid confilct of rasist stupidity.

Only a select few I know have slanted eyes. Most of them have normal sized or larger ones. Believe me, I come from an all-Chinese school.

I guess it's more common in China. It's probably genetics.

I think its because of natural selection and adaptation. People continue evolving to adapt to their environments. The Asians were probably situated in a place where they needed to have eyes like that to ensure the survival of their people. The ones who didn't have the advantage died off, and the ones with those traits reproduced and soon the ones with those kind of eyes flourished (or were a majority) and the ones with different kinds of eyes were the minority.

EVERYONE has different opinions and tastes! I think it's silly that you claim that the "majority" of "white" men lust after them. Honestly, I think it's every individual's own personal taste what is attractive to them or not. I personally find different people of all different races to be beautiful. And I have seen some VERY beautiful Asian women...all different looks to them! Not ALL of them are flat-chested and flat-butts, twiggy legs, etc. They ARE typically more petite than others, but not ALL are. They tend to have pretty skin and beautifully-shaped eyes. To each their own.

Its a common misconception. Not ALL have slanted eyes, like Lucy Liu or the actress in Grey's Anatomy. Trust me, coz I'm a chinese. We just don't have deep, sunken eyes, that's all. Most of us have natural double eyelids too.

It's called epicanthic eye fold and it is a characteristic of mongoloid race. In the regions these people lived, they needed this "adaptation" to survive.
