what is the difference between hte ncaa tournament and the nit?

besides the number of teams. and who says which team gets to go to which tournament. if it were up to me the conference champions would be in the ncaa tournament while id let the ncaa pick whoever they want in the nit

when i said conference cahmpions i meant all the conference champs from 1-a to 1-aa
