Both refer to something that has happened in the past, but "historic" usually adds the idea that it was something IMPORTANT and influential.

they mean the same thing, but can be interpreted in this way...
A historic event is one that is so large, and so important that it is inevitable that it will make it into the history books.
A historical event refers to an event that has already happened.
Both words are adjectives....both relate to history. Its in the usage an interpretation that we can make them mean something different.

Same thing actually both are adjective..but historical can also be an adverb.
