I would want to be Titus Pullo from the HBO series Rome.
That was a time when men were men! When you didn't wish, you took!
When you could absolve yourself of a horrific crime by doing something suitably awesome (like kicking butt in the arena!)
When smashing someone's face into a pillar was considered acceptable behavior if he was asking for it! Or while slowly torturing a girly man to death, your only remorse is that he won't die like a man!
Or the time when politicians stood around stabbing each other! (don't you wish this happened more often? I know a few politicians who could use a good blade in the back.)
Shock and awe? They would have laughed at our definition of shock and awe. The Roman version of shock and awe was to surround the city, kill every man and elderly, sell the women and children into slavery, and keep anything still laying around as booty for yourself! That's a good way to make the neighbors shut up!
ahhh, those were the days....
