Did you see any of the jury selection for the Conrad Black trial?
A prospective(American) juror was asked if she knew where Canada was, and her answer was something like...

"Yes...it's a country over in Europe, and it is a Socialist country"

How can anyone be so oblivious to the world around them. I mean...even if she paid NO attention to the news or TV, she had to have heard at least somewhere, sometime in her life(she was middle aged) that Canada is right next door to her(she was from Chicago, which is about a 5-6 hr. drive from the Canadian border).
I'm surprised someone that stupid knows how to get out of bed in the morning !!

As much as I hate to say this....it isn't just you. *Many* of the most stupid, idiotic people I have *ever* met in this life, I've ran into in the past 15 years or so that I've a) lived in Champaign, and b) had to deal with endless hordes of student-people "from Chicago".

Never mind that half of these people are *not even* from the city proper, but from some suburb or even further out, like Aurora....point is they seem to think Chi-town is the center of the universe and that if something isn't "just like Chicago" it doesn't deserve to exist.

I'll just say it: It's something in the water....these folks have been abusing Lake Michigan and nearby rivers for well over a century, in terms of making sewage out of them, and now, well, you tell me.

Would coming up from multiple *generations* of drinking your own toilet water make you *stupid*? Yes. ^_^

Chicago == dumb people. Really. I've not seen anyone *actually from* that city who has more than half a brain.

(and Ebert? He's from Champaign, suckers!)

Well I guess it doesn't take much..how about this...there were a couple of "men" on trial here for assaulting a woman and later doing a drive by on her and her friends...the jury was offered a choice between pleas and chose the lesser plea, the bastards were snickering throughout the entire trial!

If she is from Chicago, I'm sure she knows where Canada is. She was probably just trying to get out of jury duty. I would do something to get out of it too. I can't afford to take time from my work.

She also could have been jerking them around to seem stupid so she could get out of jury duty...Usually they don't let you out with an excuse anymore, so maybe playing dumb can do the trick.

Yeah, sounds pretty stupid. But on the other hand, she may not want to be a juror, then her answer would be a pretty good one.

yes! She's kinda dumb.
But you know what? if I wasn't sure I'd have kept my mouth shut or said I wasn't sure.....better than an answer like that don't you think?

God! it's frightening to think people like that sit on a jury in the first place......

It's really worrying that such idiots are even considered for jury duty.

Maybe, just maybe, she was smart enough to know how to answer the question to NOT get picked for that trial.
