hey, i am right now talking to a friend about homosexuality.. and she brought up a very interesting point.. is society now more open to guys being gay than girls being lesbians? For exampe that she gave was: when you hear a guy is gay people are more accepting... but when girls say they are lesbians or like the same sex many other girls or girls around them begin to freak out thinking that this girl likes them and they all stay way from her.. whats your opionion.. true or not true. or what is the general reaction coming from girls?

No, i disagree with your friend. I think in society it's a little more acceptable for a woman to be seen with another woman romantically, than it is to see 2 men together. BUT in response to the first answer, Ron S, there have been many hate crimes noted towards lesbians. Ever heard of Brandon Teena (born Teen Brandon) The role Hillary Swank played in Boys Dont cry, you do know it was a true story. She was repeatedly raped and murdered for being a lesbian. So although it may be a little less taboo than gay men, lesbians definitely are NOT 100% accepted either.

I have actually found the opposite to be true. When I talk to my straight friends, and even some of my lesbian friends, about gay sex, like details (I know, we're awful for sitting around talking about other people's business, but hey, what can ya do?) A lot of their reactions are, "that's gross". But when lesbians are brought up, it's usually not met with such resistance. Weird.

I think that lesbians are more accepted. Since heterosexual men have a higher opinion of them. You know cause it's hot for a straight guy to think of 2 lesbians, but 2 gay guys is horrible and wrong. I think more gay guys have problems with society because of straight guys, than lesbians do with straight women!

I'd definitely say it's the other way around. It's really not even close. Particularly when you consider that the most likely perpetrators of violence of any kind are males to begin with. With that in mind focusing on what incites males to violence is more relevant than focusing on what makes females squeamish. Few squeamish females hurt anyone else physically, while plenty of angry males have done damage to anyone in their path.

So with this in mind, and in restating what everyone else has said- that many men enjoy lesbians, while far less women seem to enjoy gay men (sexually anyway), I think it's safe to say that gays face far stronger repression.

Still, I don't want to minimize violence against women in general so, aside from whether or not they are lesbians It's very important to recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse toward them and do what we can to address them.

One note though about Brandon Teena, I don't think that was so much a case of simple violence toward a lesbian. Remember Teena did basically steal the man's girlfriend. Of course this in no way excuses anything that nutball did, and I was certainly as horrified as anyone at his psychotic split from reality, but you still have to think clearly on what his motives might have been.

Had Teena not presented herself as "one of the guys" and stolen his girlfriend, and had he/she instead presented him/herself as a Lesbian from the beginning I doubt the guy would have popped like he did. He still might have popped, but I doubt it would have ended the way it did.

Then again that gets into transgenders and transexuals and such, (Even though many of you will never understand it, Teena wasn't really a lesbian) and I think even my analogy misses a few points when you consider all that.

I think society at large is more accepting of lesbians. You don't hear about lesbians being killed in a hate crime like you do guys. For a lot of "straight" men, a woman on woman is hot, a man on man is disgusting. That's the way I've seen it.

i disagree big time i mean most people are more ok with females being gay over males because a lot of guys are turned on by that and find it attractive but guys deal with a lot more crap from society, im not sure why your friend said that but it deffinetly is not true in my opinnion
