Assuming you're talking about the best areas of town and not the best prices, I would recommend the Galleria area or anywhere West of downtown all the way to the Galleria area. Consider living inside the 610 loop on the west side. Nice housing, but more expensive. It all depends on what you want!

Houston is 650-odd square miles. It takes an hour to drive from one side to the other without traffic (and there's some major traffic here, almost as bad as New York City, but cleaner). Where do you want to live?

Either Crosby or Pasadena, both are wonderfully inexpensive suburbs of Houston, that are freeway close.

It's such a huge city, there is no best place. It's whatever works out for you..
