I have a friend who plays division 1 football and would be an early 3rd round pick next year at running back. He is contemplating whether entering the draft next year or joining in the the workforce as a biomedical engineer. Which do you think is the best option?

which ever one he would enjoy more. Does he really love football? I mean between practicing and playing would he want to continue doing that everyday or would he rather be an engineer. I would say he should do what he thinks will make him happiest....not just now but in the long run.

Dude, you have asked this question several times with several different teams (Northwestern, Wisconsin, Florida). Give up already. First of all the decision to enter the draft is already over, it is too late for that. Secondly, what difference does it make. He could go to the NFL then after his career go to biomedical engineering if he has the degree. Or he could just skip the NFL and go to biomedical engineering.

The best advice I would give your friend is to tryout for the NFL team and for a walk on spot. NFL teams hold open workouts. If your friend can make the team then all power to him. If not, he'll always have that biomedical engineering to fall back on. One thing that scouts take into account is the program collegiate athlete was brought up under. so if this division 1 school was a non-factor in the NCAA this season, his chances may be slim and none.

I think he should definitely finish his education, even if he goes to the NFL and becomes a starter he has no guarantee of a very long career. He could become injured and then what is he gonna do. The athletic world is littered with players that never really got an education and then didn't make it to or in the NFL. He can always enter the draft after his senior season, but he'll have is education to fall back on.

An early 3rd round pick is usually a pretty good though not great player. If I was him I would want to at least give the NFL a chance because if he doesnt he will prob regret it for all his life. If he doesnt make the team, doesnt get drafted, or injured, he always has his engineering to fall back on.

live life without regrets and have fun. if he currently plays football, he would be better off entering the nfl draft and play football for a while. do something in life that you enjoy. on top of that he can always become an engineer after he retires from football.

Definitely enter the draft. Even if that didn't work out, he can still join the workforce later. But if he decides to work and wants to enter the NFL later, that would be next to impossible. What's his name?

If his passion is football, try to play. If he really wants to be a biomedical engineer, he can wait after football or go straight into it. To experience both, play football as long as possible before hurting himself (ex: Tiki Barber) & then be a biomedical engineer.

If he is going to graduate and/or his eligibility has completed and he is interested at all in the NFL he should enter the draft and see how it goes. If he still has eligibility then I would say stay in school.
