Fishing was HUGE. By far the biggest recreational activity in Britain, still is today oddly enough. Even odder, I hate fishing and really do not understand why someone would want to sit on a cold river bank for hours on end only to pull a smelly fish out of the water.

As a child in the 70s and 80s mostly I sat in the front room playing with lego, meccano, toy cars, reading lots of books cause there was no TV until I was in my teens, Playmobil, ActionMan,card games, board games and listening to the radio. My dad would take the family on long country walks and we went to church every Sunday. A lot of spare time was occupied with visiting relatives, using public transport. I had swimming lessons as a child which at that time I misenjoyed, only discovering later that I was allergic to chlorine.I guess that leisure will vary from person to person dependant on how well off their families were. At that time money was quite tight in ours and only later became available. Does this answer help you even slightly or were you after something specific? Also did you mean for the kids or the grown ups?

I really think the greatest leisure activity in the seventies was ...... My uncle said they did it all the time. The 1980's was a whole different time though and some leisure activities were roller skating, skydiving, and the beach.

Walking everywhere, street football, swimming, television ping pong game, space invaders, swings & roundabout's, going to the beach, fishing, hide and seek and dating.
Of course the 70' and 80's where at a time when it was safe to do these things without the worries of the modern day.

Rounders was a popular sports game on our street. We used to spend a lot of time on our bikes, go down to the pond looking for frog-spawn, do kids still do that nowadays?
