No, you will find gulls in every state and province. Most of them are on the move during some time of the year, so even places that do not have gulls breeding may have gulls wintering on large lakes or rivers.

Most state ornithological societies have a bird list on their website telling which species regularly occur there. www.ebird.org also provides a way to easily browse which species occur where. Selecting either Ring-billed or Herring Gull will give you a large distribution map, and selecting any of 20 or so other gull species will show you where they live.

Haha funny you should mention Ohio as I'm from there. There are many gulls in Ohio and I'm sure the same goes for Indiana. I dont think you'll be abel to find a state that doesnt have see gull unless its closer to the heart of the U.S. like Kansas or soemthing but thn again I've never been there so i dont know.

Gulls can live all the way up into the Arctic. I'm from the Great Lakes region of Canada and can tell you that we have more than enough Ring Billed Gulls around.
