Steve Nash is the most overrated player in the NBA. To get one mvp he was really lucky. The second one was absurd. And now the talks of a third one, is simply showing the NBA is headed to...nowhere. To put in the ranks of Bird and Magic with 2-3 MVPs is ridiculous. He doesn't have a all around game, he can't defend and he hasn't even started in an allstar game. To win 2 MVPs and possibly 3, without a championship is really amazing. To put him ahead of K. Malone, C. Barkley in terms of MVPs, does that make sense? Do people actually think he was greater than them? How about John Stockon? He was much more of an all around player than Nash would and ever will be.

I'm not hating on the man. Yes, he's pretty good, real good court vision, and a definite leader, and he deserved one mvp. But 2? and all this hype?

Commenting on what JC said: "His team is crap without him. MVP.", so doesn't that make Paul Pierce, Kobe, Lebron James, Baron Davis, T-Mac, etc all MVPs? Especially they are teams with worst records than the Suns.

Nash winning mvps just says alot more about the current nba players than steve nash. It just means all the current players from kobe, lebron, tmac etc are all good but not good enough coz they may be able to dominate individually but fitted within the team concept they are not as effective and VALUABLE.

MVPs may not be compared by era to era since competition differs. Yes Nash may not belong with Bird, Chamberlain or Barkley but he is just above the competition right now and he deserves his mvps.

Saying he doesn't have an all around game is absurd. He's averaging 19.1 points a game while shooting 54% from the field and 47% from 3-point. He leads the league in assists at 11.6 per game and shoots nearly 90% from the FT line. To start an All Star game, you have to get votes, and Kobe will get more votes because there are more people in LA than in Phoenix.

Both Magic and Bird were suspect on defense. They both had the good sense to funnel the player they were guarding to the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Robert Parish. Malone was a good scorer and rebounder but didn't start sharing the ball until late in his career; ditto with Barkley; and neither of them were the defensive stopper on their clubs either.

In answer to your update, read that again. His team is crap without him. WITH him they are an NBA powerhouse with the second best record and the NBA team leader in scoring and FG%. Can Paul Pierce, Kobe, LeBron James, Baron Davis, T-Mac, et.al. make the same claim? Not this year and not last year either. Calling him "pretty good" is like saying Jerry West could make an occasional jump shot. (Oh, and Jerry West never won the MVP for the season)

Absolutely overrated. The man has no defense and has never averaged more than 20 points in a season. Stockton and Magic were better all around threats than Nash has ever been.

There's a ridiculous assumption these days that the MVP is the person who their team needs the most. Wrong, the MVP is the best player in the NBA. It should have nothing to do with how badly their team needs them.

I agree, i don't think that Steve Nash is deserving a third straight MVP, when he has yet to prove that he can lead his team to the finals. Steve Nash is probably the only league MVP in the last 20 years who played absolutely no defense. I think Steve Nash is a talented player, but the players around him are not given enough credit for their athleticism and abililty to finish. If Steve Nash was playing with half court big men like Shaq and Yao, he would have much less of an impact. I mean Michael Jordan won six championship and 6 finals MVPs and he never won three straight MVPs. That has to tell you something.

I agree that Nash winning a 3rd MVP would be a little strange, but to disallow it from him because he won it two years in a row- at least once against a weak field- is unfair.

The MVP is awarded to the most valuable player to his team during the regular season. To say Nash can't win it because his team isn't successful in the playoffs also doesn't hold up.

Is Steve Nash the most overrated player in the NBA? No, that spot belongs to Vince Carter. Does he deserve a third MVP? Maybe. Should he have more MVPs than someone like Malone or Barkley? Probably not. But we can't disqualify him from it because of a percieved historical legacy.

I'd give the MVP to Dirk Nowitzki. If Shaq had played as well the whole season as he is now, he'd be in consideration as well. But don't say Nash can't win it.

Why would you say he's overrated anyway? The guy averages a double-double per game at 6'3 in a team that holds the 2nd record in the league. He's an all-around player (unlike Malone and Barkley) and also one of the best in the current league. Don't compare him with past players since the situation they were in is not the same. Think about the year the bulls won the record for most games won in a single season, did you expect anyone from another team to win the MVP? No. Why? Cause they were the only one able to do it, they were like a one-team-show.

Right now, with teams like Dallas, San Antonio and Utah, it's different. You can't possibly think all you wrote there makes sense right?

First, you have to know what a MVP is about. It's not about numbers only. It's also about leadership, sportsmanship, making your team and team mates better and being a role model for society.

That's why Nash went MVP for two consecutive seasons. Who else did you want to win it? Kobe? Shaq? Wade? Lebron? None of those players have Nash's caliber. They are all laking in one category while Nash performs in all of them. Just like Nowitzki does this year.

How about John Stockton? John Stockton was a dirty player. He threw elbows, averaged almost 3 personal fouls per game and was never ranked 1st in assists. Plus, his effeciency ranking was much lower that Nash's.

Also, Stockton played with players like Jordan, Magic Johnson and other big names. He did not stand a chance compared to those players.

You should think about taking more factors in consideration and analyzing the current NBA insteand of comparing everything with past seasons and all of famers.

The reason Steve Nash deserves another MVP is because he makes everyone on his team better. Did you see that game against the Mavericks a couple days ago? He made all kinds of plays that you will never see on a stat sheet. His court awareness is what makes so great. He is the smartest player in the NBA and it shows on a nightly basis. People like to hate on Nash because he is a small white guy who doesn't dunk and doesn't put up huge scoring numbers. The simple fact remains; without Nash the Suns are a .500 team, not one of the elite teams in the NBA.

Nash is a point guard. He doesn't have to have amazing stats. He just needs to run the offense and control the floor. The reason why he should be considered MVP is because he makes his team better. He carried his team into the playoffs without Amare. I don't think he should win MVP this year, but he should definately be considered.

Steve nash is the most overrated player in the nba. He can't put up big points (less than 50) and is not the only one throwing out 10 dishes a game.Kobe or Dirk deserves it they both excell at crunch time and kobe has one of the worst supporting cast in the whole nba.Aslo i'd have ten assist in a game if i had Stoudimare,Marion, and Diaw

I agree with you. There are so many other great players in the NBA, that to win 2 consecutive MVP is crazy. He is the best playmaker in the NBA but that's about it. He's an all-star player for sure but what about Gilbert Arenas, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, and the other guys.
