There is no singular answer as there are many ulterior motives for being at war in Iraq, most of them revolving around money. Here is a truncated list:
Oil interests: War in oil-producing regions drive up prices. Bush, Cheney, other republican oil-barons, the Bin-Laden's and many others have all reaped the financial benefits of conflict in the middle-east.
War is profitable: To fight a war many products must be made and purchased - weapons, surveillance technology, supplies, etc. This fact boosts the economy (making the current administration look good) and puts money in the pockets of those in the business of making the goods.
Underlying motive: The Nation State of Israel, of which the US is a staunch supporter, has a not-so-hidden agenda in the middle-east: to propagate sectarian violence among Muslim nations resulting in civil-war (like the one currently raging in Iraq) to the effect of self-destruction. Muslim nations know this about Israel and desire the dissemblance of the Jewish State for this reason.
Here's the twist: True Jews AGREE with the dissemblance of the State of Israel! Watch the link below in which Rabbi Yisroel Weiss states that God's Law forbids the formation of Israel as a State and that its existence is what fosters ALL major conflict, war and suffering in the region and subsequently, world-wide.

First the media picture ! which stated that US attacked Iraq becuase it had MDW and it was a danger for the whole middle east and also saddam was a cruel ruler who had killed 350 somthing (forgotton the exact number) kurds there and thats why he should be taught a lesson and thats why America should attack it.........someother sources told that US is unprotected because Iraq has got those weapons so they should attack Iraq to make themselves safe and sound !! and thus they attacked Iraq, executed Saddam and now they are ruling it ! But they could not found the MDW there.so they blame Syria that it has been transported to Syria(an excuse to attack syria??))
But the reality is that Iraq has Oil resources and America need to stabalise it economy by that Oil.........so these were all just lame excuse just to show the world that they are attacking it for "reason" saddam was once the best friend of US and when he attacked Kuwait then too US was with him, When he was at war with Iran then US was backing him...so how come US become so senstive for those 300 kurds?and big news is that till now 650,000 Iraqis are being killed and 3000 deaths among their troops as well ! quite an impressive number !! Iraqis are regreting the downfall of saddam regime and one can well imagine how nicely US troops are treating Iraqis!
So actual reason for this war is "Oil" for which US has attacked Iraq , and killing innocent peoples plus they are backing the terrorists parties like Al-Ansar to create a law and order situation there and now Shiite and Sunnis are fighting to each other showing themselves totally ignorant and they ahve forgotton that they are under rule of some invaders...too busy to think of their freedom ! see the politics is ruling !!
and Btw there is one aspect of Israel interest as well.and US being their best friend is doing some favour to them as well but waging a war against Iraq !

George Bush senior had an agenda years ago to go after Saddam Hussein. George W. Bush years later became president and decided he wanted to use 9/11 as an excuse to finish what his father started in Iraq years ago. Everyone knows that Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 and that Bush used the threat of WMD as an excuse to invade Iraq. Now he is still there because he feels we as a country can apparently single handedly end terrorism. I think the fact that Cheney got his company Halliburton in there shows you their integrity and true motivations...

Let me quote Country Joe McDonald here because this is just as relevant now as it was 40 years ago...
"There is plenty of money to be made,
Supplying the army with the tools of the trade..."
In other words, people are making money off of this war. War is good business. It doesn't matter WHO we are fighting, just that we are at war.

Money.
Nervi belli pecunia. "Endless money is the sinews of war." Cicero said that back in the time of the roman republic. Today I half expect Bush to appoint his horse to the senate.

Because we want to establish a friendly, allied state in a strategic part of the world, and a certain apocalyptic variant of one of the world's great religions disagrees rather vehemently with the idea.

No. Stop trying to stir up trouble.
President Bush ( greatest ever) is protecting us from the Islamofascists who want to kill us because they hate us for our freedoms. Iraq is the center of the war on terror.
