It IS about OIL. Read the book, "Oil: Anatomy Of An Industry", for the whole sordid story. It is not about being leftist or rightist, but about being INFORMED rather ignorant of the issues. In this book you will learn about the Bush family's ties to Big Oil and how that relationship (phenomenal presidential campaign funding, for example) informs every conflict in which the U.S. has ever been involved. And, yes, the Democrats have gotten their fare share of funding, but not nearly as much as the Republicans. George W. Bush was bought and paid for by oil companies, and our congress continues to be influenced by the most powerful lobbies on the Hill. Anyone who feels that the war is not about OIL is either being paid by the oil companies, works for an oil company, or simply has not reviewed the information. There really is no simple answer, but there is a war in Iraq because the U.S. is as dependent on oil as any drug addict. U.S. troops were originally sent there in order to protect those oil interests. They will likely remain in Iraq until the U.S. can set up a leader who is U.S.-friendly, just as they did when they worked to install the Shah in Iran.

Once again we are at war over money. Not the way you think, Saddam could have easily been taken out by assasins, along with his sons. War is big business, just ask Haliburton Corporation, and guess who's stocks are profiting because of the war. Take another guess who we elected that has interest in the welfare of Haliburton stock. It may not be directly linked, but if you do enough investigation you will see who the winners are in this war, Big Business, NOT the middle east. Funny how the Saudi's seem not to be involved directly in the war, could it be that some elected officials are fighting a war on their behalf. The Saudi's, we don't want to anger them, if they pull their money out of their interests in the US, our financial structure will collapse in bankruptcy. This war goes much deeper than the terrorist reign of Saddam Hussein, it goes to the root of the money used to fund political elections through contributions by big business, the same ones profiting from the war. Do you see the circle yet.

yes! despite what the media may say, it is a political strugggle between the sunnis and shittes! as of now, the shiites have control over most of iraq, and dictate polices! the sunnis had saddam hussein, and were responsible for the murders of thusands of shiites! the sunnis feel like the shiites are now trying to get revenge for those days! the sunnis want a greater say in politics of iraq, and the shiites simply will not give it to them. oil is also a factor, and why the united states is sticking its nose where it really does not belong! POLITICS, AND NOT! RELIGION IS CAUSE OF CIVIL WAR! THAT IS YOUR ANSWER! GOOD QUESTION!

Because Saddam broke 17 UN resolutions and all the intelligence pointed to WMDs (and remember, most DEMS including Hillary Clinton granted Bush the right to pursue war)....Yes, Saddam had WMDs and he moved them once he kicked out the UN inspectors. That is main reason. It isnt about oil, like the lefties scream, because we haven't taken one drop of oil FOR FREE from Iraq.
