My family and I are going to be relocating there in a couple of months and I want to live in the VERY BEST area. I have 3 kids soon to be in elementary school, so any help with the best schools would be appreciated too. Please base your answers on fact & experience, not merely personal opinion. I have heard that Northwest S.A. is pretty good???

Yes the Northwest side has one of the best school districts in the city. This area, however is growing like you wouldn't believe. Several of the elementary schools are overcrowded due to the rapid growth. Many children are placed in portables due to the lack of room in the actual school building. NISD is constructing new schools but quite frankly not fast enough. One of the areas many families are flocking to is Helotes for the hills and "country like" feel. In other words a stone's throw from SA with the quiet of country. However, at the rate this area of town is growing it's my guess Helotes will soon be right smack in the middle of new developments further west of them and San Antonio. In other words the quiet won't last forever. Already the incoming traffic flow from and to Helotes is horrible and only getting worse. Your patience is really tested when driving around this area. Unless you know that commuting and heavy traffic aren't an issue for you then I'd suggest Helotes. You'll love San Antonio for various reasons. I think you'll also be pleased with the friendliness of the locals. :)

Believe it or not, the safest I felt was in the King William district right downtown. It was quiet, the homes are beautiful and I just really liked it. I have lived on all 4 sides of the city, and even in a mobile home community on the southeast side by China Grove. That was a good place too, but I left my heart in the King William district.

Northwest side IS pretty good and pretty affordable but if you want the best like you say, get ready to dish out LOTS of money for a home in the far north side. It is considered the best but is very pricey! Northside independent school district is tops here in SA.
