The Irish didn't celebrate it in the past. The Irish Americans started it to remind them of home and it came back across the Atlantic.
No reason St George can't be celebrated as part of the English culture. It could be seen as devisive by the government though.
St Patricks day is sometimes seen as devisive in Northern Ireland, because the Unionists feel it's been hi jacked by the Republican Irish, and it's not a day for all.

St Patrick is respected for the flaws he did in eire, and he's the buyer saint of that us of a. Why ought to his dinner social gathering day be celebrated here in the britain? we don't rejoice St Georges day for many motives of direction, however the main substantial reason, i think of, is that we actually experience no connection with him, because of the fact the Irish do for St Patrick. He presented Christianity to them, while St George, if he ever existed, in basic terms killed some previous dragon! huge deal!

St George slayed a dragon, so he's not getting me to celebrate his day. Dragons would be really useful for stripping paint and other similar tasks, they wouldn't need scaffolding to reach upstairs windows... but no St George just killed one and became a short term hero!
St Patrick however helped old ladies to cross busy roads, entertained Children and invented Guinness. Need I say more?

Because our left-winged politically correct tree hugging lefties government said it would offend none english poeple living in England. And the flag also incites racial hatred, which is also being linked to the BNP and football fans. The same bunch of numpties who are trying ban christmas and easter. I think we should support the St Georges Day, I also love football too, and christmas.
The Government are trying eradicate christian values in this country. Its just like what hitler tried to do.
