Baby # 5 was an induction baby because of some medical issues with her that we wanted to have the surgical team lined up - just incase she needed it.
I went in at 5 pm the put the cervadil in at about 7 pm. This medicine helps your cervix get soft and open up.
I sat there, lay there, sat there, lay there nothing, more sitting more laying ... well you get the idea... they were hoping that I would go into labor with out much else. I didn't, they broke my water the following morning about 7 am. During this what I felt was like - the only word I can describe is pressure, not painful - just pressure then a gush of water and almost like a new pressure lower - closer to my cervix. Odd I know but that's the best way I can put it into words.
So here I go right? No... Not so easy. Sitting -- laying -- NO walking because when they are inducing the didn't let me walk. Not sure if that is a blanket policy but it was with my Dr. ANYWAY - nothing was happening and now with my water broken we had to get something going - so they gave me Pitocin - it makes contractions start and makes them stronger - well that it did... and my daughter was born at 10:30 pm on day 2 of being at the hospital. But if you look at the fact that I didn't have my first contraction until after the Pitocin not more than 5 hours before the baby was born - not a bad labor time at all !
Good Luck you yours and Congrats on the baby !!!

I was induced twice. The first time, I had Pitcairn with an epidural block. I believe the epidural block slowed down my labor. It took over 40 hours from the time I went into the hospital for my son to arrive even with the pitocin. My third pregnancy, I had a pill called Misoprostol (Cytotec) inserted into my vagina every 4 hours to induce labor. That worked pretty fast as my daughter arrived within 15 hours. Labor usually isn't quick and being induced isn't what you want but it is sometimes necessary. A c-section sometimes is necessary but takes longer for recovery. Labor is painful but it's a pain that ends when the baby arrives. When your water breaks, it's not painful. It's a gush of warm water and not uncomfortable at all. All labor and births are a unique experience. I am pregnant again for the 4th time. If it were that awful, women around the world would never do it again. Babies are awesome. Relax. Have faith. You will be fine and your baby will be fine. In the end, all the pain and all the tests are worth the outcome. Good luck and congratulations! Best wishes! :)

I went 42 weeks then had my labor induced. First the tried "Cervidil" I am not sure if it's the same thing you are getting or not, but anyways, it's a 12 hour process, and it dialated me 1 centimeter, but it was enough to open my cervix enough the next morning to have my water broken. You don't really feel it, you just feel the pressure. It is like a regular exam in the begining and then you just feel pressure (my daughter is 6 months) and then you just feel a bunch of water and I felt really gross. BUT once that happens your contractions come like crazy- and if you choose pain killers they give you them not to long after they break your water. They broke my water at 8am and I had my daughter at 10:54 am!!!! It is a good experiance, so then you can share!!!!!

Well, I was supposed to be induces with my son and the very morning I got up to go, I started on my own but, I was put on a drip to speed it up because I was not progressing the way I should have...the Dr. broke my water which was painless, it felt kind of like I peed myself. After this and hours of pushing, he was too big to be born naturally so, I had to have an emergency cesarean...I felt pretty much nothing during this except for sort of painless "pressure". Not sure how else to describe it...I could kind of feel the movements that the Dr.s were doing, such as a light pressure but, it did not hurt. (I had already had a spinal block also, though...) :) You'll do great! Don't worry! Good luck and congrats to you!!!

The doctor tried inducing my labor using Pitocin, but it really didn't work. I had contractions, but they were the kind that didn't really hurt, it was just a lot of pressure and I could feel my stomach tighten up a lot. I didn't dilate at all so after about 20 hours, the doctor decided I needed to have a C-section (I had pre-eclampsia). I got a spinal for anestesia and the C-section was preformed. It actually happened a lot faster than me or my husband expected it to and it was a lot easier than I had imagined it would be. There was some pain when the drugs wore off, but I was given Ibuprofen for it and that was enough. Don't worry. However your little miracle comes into this world, seeing that little face and feeling him or her in your arms makes up for any pain or discomfort you will have. Congratulations!

i was induced both times. the first experience wasn't the best one...but the second time was awesome. my cervix was favorable each time. the water being broke is very uncomfortable. and the contractions come on very quickly and strongly. i had an epidural with each of them and it was very nice and then within a couple hours both times i had the epidural i was pushing and it took 5 pushes the first time and 3 pushes the second time to get them out. i would say the better your nurse and doctor are the better your experience will be that's what made the difference for me. good luck and hey look at it the way i did you will be holding your baby soon!

Breaking the water was an experience. It was not painful, but they have several methods of breaking the water. The first is to use what looks like a knitting needle and the second is to use a little hook/pin that is on the tip of a surgical glove. I preferred the first as it wasn't even noticable. With the second method, they have to reach as far as they can to poke the water bag manually. Found the second method to be uncomfortable but not unbearable. The water is warm and just runs out slowly.
BTW, they did not do both at with the same pregnancy. I am referring to two different pregnancies.
Best of luck ! !

I was induced after being 2 weeks late, They started me with the plotocin (sp) and that was fine...didn't hurt too bad....and they start you off slow so it isn't like instant labor!! heh.... when that didn't work they broke my water, it didn't hurt....but it sure felt strange! It is like going pee and not having ANY control over it. It definatly intincifies the contractions though...I loved the birthing ball though, that REALLY helped to lower the pain (it is a huge yoga ball) It helps to expand your hips too.... Finally after 26 hours of REALLY bad contractions I had to have an emergency C-Section....her head was too big and I never got passed and 8....she had a little crown on her huge head where I was trying so hard to push her out and it was just physically impossiable....If I were to ever have another baby I am excited to know that I will have a c-seciton....in my opinion it was ALOT less painful!

I was induced with two pregnancies. They kept me at the hospital though, I didn't get to leave after they gave me the medication. When your water breaks it's like you have just wet yourself. The water just sorta gushes out. It's not painful or anything like that. My inductions were wonderful. I was given the medication and within just about 5 hours I was in labor having my babies. I would recommend induction to anyone who can have it. Takes the guess work out of when it will happen. Like I said, usually just a matter of a few hours. I'm mom to 3.
