I write poems and would like to get them published but have no idea where to start. I have also written a few books but due to being an eccentric poet i burnt them coz they were read before they were finished but if i were to write more i'd like to know what to do with it, Id rather write film scripts or music lyrics.

On the web, you can contact poetry.com. They are always anxious to find good poetry on every subject! They will publish your poetry, but, you will not get paid for it. There are books that you may find in your library that will tell you which magazines, book publishers, etc. WILL pay you for your poetry and/or stories. The Writer's Handbook is really a great book to own or to just take notes. Here, the book tells you how much is paid, how many words to use, how you may enter your writing, what types of writing each book accepts, and everything you need to know.

Go to the Library, and ask for the Writers year book,
It is actually called The Writers and ------Year Book,
May be Authors or Poets I'm not sure but the Librarian will know. This book will tell you which Publishers like Poetry and even what type, If they do not have one in they will get it for you for a small fee.
You will need to keep sending out to different Publishers as you may get a lot of rejections, but always send out freshly printed version's as none of them like to be an after thought.

Good luck and keep going never give up, it's hard till you make it but then easy street, just look at Pam Aires rise to success

Pick up your favorite magazine and send your poems in to them. Most writers and poets just start sending what they have written out to various magazines that they think would like what they wrote.
Find yourself a good editor, one that is not related to you, and send them your work. Many times an outside opinion helps with refining our writing.
Go to all the web-sites that you can think of that take poetry. See what they are saying. You can publish yourself too on such sites as Lulu.com
In this day and age it isn't difficult to get published, what is difficult is getting someone to pay you for your work.

Consult Poet's Market 2007, probably available at your public library or you can buy it online.
