So I recently moved and lost my sons birth certificate. I need to apply for child support and thats the only thing im missing. I called the hospital where my son was born and they told me to get in tough with "wwwsdarcc.com" My two options were to mail in a application for new birth certificate form, which seems too easy doesnt it? OR go to a local office, but the offices are in california (where I used to live) When I looked up offices in Maryland (where I live now) they say it can take up to 3-4months or longer! My ex is an awful person who hasnt been helping out at all or called to see how we were doing in 5 months. Im kind of at a standstill i'm stuck i dont know what to do??? Does it really take that long?

Assuming your child was born in California, if you follow the link Busty has given, you will be told that where you should really go is the County Recorder for the county of your child's birth. There will be a web site for the recorder (you can just put the name of the county and "recorder" into Google and find it), and they will tell you how to do it. It can be done through the mail, but will usually take the filing of a notarized statement that you are the mother if you need a certified copy. It should take a few weeks, not a few months.

In a pinch (like if you don't know the county of birth), a birth certificate can be obtained through the state Department of Health Services, but it takes substantially longer. Do not try to get it from hospitals, court houses, or clerks. Those agencies do not have birth certificates in California.

It might, but not usually. When I needed a copy of my Birth Certificate it only took about 4 weeks (from Colorado). Contact the Social security admin in California and they should be able to hook you up. It may cost a little more to hurry the process but it can be worth it. Sorry to hear your Ex is such a scumbag.

Contact the county health department in Maryland where your son was born. They should have all the vital statistics: birth & death certs. You can usually just apply with a form, pay a couple bucks, and have your certificate in a couple of days! IT IS that easy!!

Maybe an Identity Thief?? U would get a bad surprise if U get it by lying to the state officials. There are rules that vary state by state as to who are able to get the certificate of birth.
