From the beginning of time, humans have murdered each other. Why do otherwise intellegent and principled people continue to believe that murder is justifiable and effective? Murder may solve an immediate need for revenge, a response to an immediate fear, reward, compensation or justifiable punishment, but the fact is that Capital Punishment is not effective as a deterent. Chistian's have a special responsiblity to not kill others, to not murder others because Jesus was himself murdered in a legal manner of the day and it was unjust and ineffective. I just don't get it! How can the same person proclaim to believe in Jesus and support capital punishment? What happened to forgiveness? Jesus preached forgiveness. How can it be ignored by Christians?

Hey Jesus was executed, and he never went on to kill again.

I agree with wizjp. If you read your Bible, you will see that it says many things about people "reaping what they sow". Thou shalt not kill is correct, but I believe people who kill should also be killed, if they are of sound mind. If they are insane, I believe that if they can be helped, then they should be sent somewhere to receive that help. But that is just my opinion, if it made any sense.... heh

You might want to study your theology a bit more.

BTW - can you name one person who was executed who went on to kill again? The idea is not as much to deter that individual - it is to make sure he does not kill again.
