My daughter still does it. Just let them do it. They'll figure out that hurts and stop eventually. They're mostly doing it out of curiousity.

My son was born with a full head of hair, we put the baby mittens or socks on his hands to stop him from doing it, this also helps him/her not scratch themselves. He was 5 weeks early and everyone told me he'd lose the hair..LMFAO what a joke he never lost it, it just went from being almost black like his fathers to being blonde like mine and he's 10 months old now. My daughter who will be 14 in a few weeks was born at 23 weeks 5 days gestation with all her hair and it never fell out either so socks were used with her too. But she didnt even know she had a head for a few weeks after she was born

LOL>.first calm down. Many little ones do this. They don't realize yet what they are doing. Remember he's only 4 wks. A good thing to stop it is the special little cloth gloves they make for babies. Keeps them from scratching themselves too. They are generally cotton and look like a big round piece of cloth with a little elastic in the bottom. In a pinch I've used babie booties or socks. As long as the socks don't fit real tight. He'll stop in time mom. I'm mom to 3.

My babies came out with just fuzz on their heads. So, it was a good 9-10 months until they had enough to pull...therefore, this is not a problem I have personally experienced, but a 4 week old can't control their hands so it is purely an accident (my 4.5 month old is just now starting to clumsily figure out his hands). Try putting those baby mittens on your baby's hands or a pair of socks as mittens. Or try keeping your baby in one of those nightgowns or outfits whose shirt cuffs will fold over the opening making a built-in mitten. It will also help them from accidentally scratching themselves with their thin, sharp nails. I hope that this helps.

Put some mittens on him-the kind without fingers- so he can not grasp it.

He is just looking for something to grab onto. Comfort, curiosity and it may even be soothing to him.
