They used to think that you could determine a baby's gender by the heart rate but this is not true. This is now an established fact. You will just have to wait until you are about 18 weeks along at which point they can make that determination via ultrasound.

It is a great heartbeat. At only 11 weeks it can be hard to find the heartbeat. If it recorded 160 it is 160. I volunteer at a pregnancy help clinic and just last week we did an ultrasound on a woman who was almost 11 weeks and it took awhile to find the heart beating. Sometimes the baby is turned around so it can be difficult. Do not worry- your baby's heart is beating at just the right speed. Sounds like your baby is doing just fine. Congratulations.

I just heard my baby's heartbeat at my 14 week visit and it took my OB's PAC about 5-10 minutes to find it. My heart sank, that time seemed like an eternity. Anyway, the heart rate was 160. My sister-in-laws asked me the rate and when I told them, they both said girl. This really annoyed me because the joke is that my hubby and his brothers cannot produce boys. Anyway, I did a little research on the Internet and every legitimate web-site states that the myth about boys rates being between 120-140 and girls are 140-160 are just that - a myth. One web-site stated that it is true after birth because girls heart rate gets higher during delivery, but as far as fetal rates, there is no truth to the myth. Another web-site stated that the rate of women's intuition was actually higher - 71% of women actually knew the sex of their baby before finding out. Best wishes for a healthy baby - boy or girl!

Sounds like a very normal heartbeat for 11 weeks. If you were nervous and scared it may have elevated it slightly but not too much.
The heartbeat thing is definatley just an old wives tale. I have 3 girls.....my oldest went from a very high heartrate in early pregnancy to a very low(120) in later pregnancy. My second daughter consistantly ran 135...and my youngest consistantly ran 150. Although fun to guess you can not use these to determine the sex of the baby.

Your heartbeat being faster wouldn't necessarily make the baby's faster. They're separate now! But yes, girl heartbeats are TYPICALLY faster, but that's not 100%. I had a slower heartbeat, around 130, the whole time mom was pregnant, so they told her I'd be a boy...and I definitely don't have a penis. The heartrate thing has now been proven to be about as accurate as any old wives tale.

It is normal at 160. And no you can not tell by the heartbeat what sex it is. I am pregnant with a boy and his heart rate has always been high usually in the 160's, sometimes as high as 170 or as low as 140, it fluctuates. I have a medical grade dopplar at home that I rented and I check it at least once a day

My heartrate has been up many time before and it hasnt affected the baby's. Hers is always around 140-150. GENERALLY a girl's heartbeat will be faster but thats not always the case, the heartrate usually ranges anywhere from 130-160. My daughters has been as high as 156 but as low as the 130's.

if you're dreaming its a boy .. ITS A BOY! its mothers instinct :)
I've known since day 1 that I was having a boy. I dreamed it and I could sense it.
and then the ultrasound confirmed it :)
our little boys heartbeat is a steady 150 (which is in the high) and my nephew who was just born in sept. had a steady heartbeat of 155-160 the entire pregnancy .. the heartbeat doesnt mean anything.
you've probably got a boy!
congrats! good luck! God bless!
