I am an optimist.
My wife was killed in a traffic accident in 2003. I believe that she is in heaven now, and is able to intercede for me and our daughters.
It was a tragic event, but as I am an optimist, I will not ascribe pessimism to it.

I think I'm an Optipess. Sometimes I'm optimistic, sometimes pessimistic. It's human nature. Don't believe anyone who claims to be either all the time.
Here's a situation that's good but which can make you pessimistic.
One day you get a letter from a lawyer telling you that a distant relative whom you've never met, has died and you're the only surviving member of his family. He left you a large amount of money and as you never knew him you can't be upset at his death ,just a little sad. Suddenly you realise that the enormous wealth you have inherited will change your life forever. You then become pessimistic as you expect that your friends will change their attitude towards you and expect you to give them money. Problem is that, if you do, they will see you as boasting about your wealth and looking down on them but, if you don't, you are a miser.
I would be optimistic in this situation thinking that my real friends will appreciate what they get and be pleased for me and the others aren't really friends so would get nothing.

I am a pessimist. I always expect the worst to happen. Or when I see something, I always comment on the negative side of it. Like, they're building a new shopping center near my house. I said "great, a store right down the street" then it like "but there is going to be so much traffic around here now and I'm going to have to leave my house sooner". Or I see something unattractive about someone before I see something attractive. It's just my nature. I wish I was the opposite, but I'm not and I've dealt with it.

I am a pessimist. It's easier to thinks things won't go my way, therefore I don't get let down. If they do go in my favor, then I can be genuinely pleased.
