For the past 4-5 months, I have had loose bowels almost every day. It seems the only time I do not is on the weekends. I started a new job about 5 months ago, and I work at 8:30 in the mornings now, whereas I used to work nights. I have come to the conclusion that their may be a strong connection between my loose bowel problem and the days I have to get up early. Does not getting enough sleep cause this? Most of the days it happens, It happens more than once a day, and usually before I have eaten anything.

Any ideas about the cause and should I be concerned?

No negative comments please!

Changes in your activity and eating schedules can affect your bowel movements. If you've also changed what you eat along with your new schedule it could have an effect. And if your new job is stressful, that could be related, too- even if it's good stress.

Take notes. If you notice the problem specifically on certain days you might be able to tie it to your schedule or something you eat.

If it really worries you, it's never a bad idea to check with your doctor.

I suggest eating a high fiber diet, avoiding super processed foods and sugar. Also, consider adding yogurt or acidopholis capsules to your daily intake to get things regular again.

Are you drinking coffee in the morning now, or drinking it more often than before? That can cause loose bowels. Did you change the brand recently? That can cause it too, because mild roasts cause loose bowels more than dark roasts do.

Did you change your eating habits? That can affect it too.

Basically, look for what has changed in your eating habits and you probably have your answer.

In the meantime, try drinking mint or peppermint tea. It gently helps with tummy problems.

It could be a form of colitis, that usually comes from nerves, and if changing your job, and different hours, you might be adding too much stress to yourself. If its not on the weekends, then that's when your tension has left,(no Work) take it easy, and be care full what you eat,

It highly depends on your diet. WHat your eating and what your mixing you foods with. example: drinking a glass of milk then eating something real spicy.
Or you could be having an allergic reaction

Believe it or not, stress can cause you to have the "runs". Maybe you are stressed at work.
