"Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised."

I no longer believe we are assigned to a place in life (unless we let others assign us to one). So I don't have to worry about the free will vs. predetermination debate. Thank goodness I'm off that merry-go-round.

So God gave you a life, and declared you'd be born to certain parents at a certain time. But He wants to see what you do with it. That's where your free will comes in. Even in this example, the man (or his parents) made a choice whether or not he should be circumcised, and *when* he would heed the calling of the Church. That was his decision and his free will. And God shows understanding of that, and accepts him into the church anyway.

I think Paul was talking to those that were already a part of God's "flock". He wasn't referring to all of humanity, nor was he referring to our ability to make day-to-day decisions. This was a verse about obedience to God.

LOL...
You are right.
If I have free will, my actions cannot be known until after I make them.
If my actions are known, it is impossible for me to act outside of what is known that I will do.
It actually invalidates the entire concept of the religion.
