First of all, the eye is possibly the most recognizable feature of tropical cyclones. Surrounded by a vertical wall of thunderstorms (the eyewall), the eye is a roughly-circular area at the cyclone's center of circulation. In strong tropical cyclones, the eye is characterised by light winds and clear skies, surrounded on all sides by a towering, symmetric eyewall.

the reason why hurricanes have eyes is because there is a circular movement of strong winds. thus, the middle will not have any strong weather inside. no matter how small the diameter, there will have to be a "circle" inside in order for there to be circular movement of wind on the eyewall.

in simpler terms, there has to be a build-up of some sort. high pressure builds up from low pressure. the low pressure is in the middle of the area and it builds up towards the outer area. so, the eye is where things originate and has a low pressure area.

I live in Florida and have been outside when the eye of the hurricane has passed over. Unlike a tornado, the eye of a hurricane is very large. It is caused by the swirling wind of the hurricane. When the eye hits, everything goes calm and the rain stops and the sun is shining, it is pretty amazing. But when you get hit with the back wall, it is a real nightmare and not fun.

The centre of a hurricane is the place with the lowest pressure. All the winds and the cloud bands will approach this centre in a spiral form(anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere). As these winds and clouds approach from all directions at the same time ,a circular motion is created with a diameter of approximately 20 to 50 Kms length. This area will have clear sky and calm wind. This portion is seen in the radar and satellite pictures as a opening at the centre of vast cloud cover of hundreds of Kms wide.As this looks like an eye, it is called so.

A hurricane is a strong force of wind that moves in a circle. Round and round and round. The center, like the hole in a doughnut, had no wind. The "hole" is refered to as the eye.

they don't really. that's just the area of low pressure in the center that the rest of the storm revolves around. it looks like an eye from space.

So they can see the idiot TV reporters standing outside doing live reports, and smack them with high winds and rain.
