Not sure about Yahoo mobile specifically, but you can email a message directly to your phone, if you know the phone's email address. It's usually your 10 digit number, followed by the carrier extension. For instance:

// Verizon
8885551212 @ vtext.com

// Cingular
8885551212 @ mobile.mycingular.com

// Nextel
8885551212 @ messaging.nextel.com

// T-Mobile USA
8885551212 @ tmomail.net

// T-Mobile USA - Sidekick
8885551212 @ tmail.com

// Virgin Mobile
8885551212 @ vmobl.com

//Sprint
8885551212 @ messaging.sprintpcs.com

Hello There!

You really got to go to www.peekamo.com and register for their free service. At peekamo, you can send free TXT messages to anyone in the USA and Canada from your desktop.

The great thing is you don't need to know their carrier of the person you are sending the message too.

Best part is that it is free, for you and the person receiving the TXT msg (free to receive in Canada on your mobile) - but of course you can receive on the web too. You can also manage your text messages (save, forwad, delete, etc).

The delivery of the message is pretty good and its free to receive in most parts of the world - not sure about the USA, sorry :(

Peekamo uses SMPP not SMTP. Yahoo, MSN and others uses SMTP! which means the receiving party gets charged to either receive the message or reply with "read" to get the message, which of course is chargable.

With Peekamo, you don't have to worry about spam either. You can also create groups too. I'm from Canada where if you don't have a plan, TXT messages to the US can cost upto 15cents!

I guess the last greatest thing is that it masks your cell phone number so it protects your identity. Check it out - it really works and its really free. and no spam at all.

Why pay the telco's when you don't have to right!

Using the yahoo messenger I am able to right click on a users name and then click send a text/sms message. You will have to enter their phone number the first time.
