There seems to be this norm in the American culture, a rule, that men should never under any circumstance hit a woman. But then you hear many women saying they want to be treated as equals. So if you want to play equal, shouldn't you take punches, if you feel you are allowed to throw them?
What do you think? Should women who are violent towards men, be fair game for a man to hit back (equally, not excissively)?

I am SO glad you asked this question. That has been a pet peeve of mine for so long. It has irritated me to no end that girls (children) can hit a boy in school, but if a boy hits back, he will get in trouble. It has annoyed the heck out of me that a woman will think she can slap a man's face or hit a man, but if he slaps or hits her back, then he is the one who looks like a jerk. I have heard many women say, even in Yahoo Answers, that they should kick a guy in the groin when he makes them mad or does something to upset them. That is SO wrong. It is an act of violence to do that. It can cause excruciating pain for the guy, as well as can cause permanent damage. It should only be reserved for when a man is trying to harm a woman and that is her only way to get away from him and protect herself. If a man kicked or punched a woman in the groin or her lower abdomen, he could also cause permanent damage. There is definately a double standard when it comes to hitting/punching/slapping or kicking.
My son believes that if a girl/woman hits him, then she is saying to him that she doesn't mind if he, a stronger and bigger person, hits back, because having already calculated his size and stature, she still took the risk of assaulting him. I know my son would never hit a female unless she assaulted him for no good reason. I actually have no problem if he hits her back, but because she is weaker than he is, I would want him to restrain himself if he ever did so. I believe he only hit a girl once, and only because she came up and kicked him hard in the leg "just because". She didn't even know him. As for my daughter, I have taught her that under no circumstances is she to ever hit a guy - with the exception of self-defense. I think it boils down to educating our daughters what is acceptable behavior, and then teaching them that to have a double-standard is wrong.

The real rule - the Golden Rule - is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, so that means NO ONE should go hitting people, regardless of their sex. It's NOT all right for women to hit men, women, children.
The only exception is self-defense - if someone hits you, you have the right to defend yourself, attempt to restrain them, and if necessary, hit back... but only to the point of ending the confrontation, it does not give you license to beat them past the point they give up the fight. So a man could defend himself against a violent woman, but he should consider his superior strength when throwing a punch, and focus on stopping her, not hurting her.
It's common sense.

Women shouldn't hit men in the first place, there are abusive wives and girlfriends too, it's an equal ratio. If women want to hit their men then the man has a right to smack her right back. Of course, violence shouldn't even be used but just in case it happened to, equal opportunity.

Nobody should hit anybody! The police will arrest a woman for abusive behaviour just as fast as they'll arrest a man. Fair is fair, after all.
We shouldn't be settling our disagreements with our fists, anyway.

People shouldn't hit each other at all....this is a true sign of disrespect and it has nothing to do with equality.

wemyn are sacred and live givers...they should rule the earth and all who inhabit it! wemyn should be treated with absolute honor............ha ha...just kidding....you shouldnt hit them....but ive quit the hero biz...use to stomp any a-- wipe that hit a woman.but ive stopped that.ive been treated horribly by wemyn i use to worship.now i see a guy hitting a woman ,i think,she probrobly desserves it.i dont give a s---t any more.you wemen are evil.and i dont care any more....
